ACTIVITY
Our activity uses the flipped classroom teaching approach to work on the clauses of contrast and purpose. We thought it would be a good idea to introduce or refresh the topic at home first through watching a video that the teacher has previously recorded.
The content of the video would be an explanation of what clauses of contrast and purpose are and when to use them, a classification, and it would contain examples, and comment on the place in the sentence in which the expressions need to appear. The video would present the topic and then have some very easy follow-up questions to check their understanding. By using an app like "Nearpod", the video would pause and have questions about the explanation, this will be saved for the teacher to check. We would use Google Classroom to post the link.
After watching the video the students have to do exercise 3a from page 87. The teacher will check if the students have completed the homework, and depending on the result, if they have understood the explanation.
The idea of the activity in class is to use the clauses to write a story in pairs or groups of three. The students will be given a topic (between cities and advertisements, as they are the topics of the unit and they sould already be familiar with them). The teacher will hand them 3 random clauses of contrast that they will have to use in this short writing activity. This activity will be corrected by the teacher after the class ends. The teacher will monitor the progress of the students through the correction of the short story and the results in the homework activity. The correction will be done by using a rubric that the teacher will create for the activity.
